Connect with Nature because it benefits both our physical wellbeing and mental health; doing something green and sustainable for our environment; appreciate the beauty and wonder of our natural world; learning new things and discovering new interests; meeting like-minded people and having loads of fun; and of course, to breath some fresh Cornish air.​
Aims of Connect with Nature:
● To raise awareness and advocate on "Sustainable Development Goals number 3", which is "Good Health and Wellbeing".
● To encourage people to connect with nature because it benefits both our physical wellbeing and mental health.
● To raise awareness on the importance of wildlife.
● To do something green and sustainable for our environment.
● To appreciate the beauty and wonder of our natural world.
● To meet like-minded people with the same passion and interest for nature and wildlife.

Wildlife Matters"
​Events are Free, it is fully-funded by Rowena Castillo-Nicholls. Everyone is welcome to attend. Booking is essential. To book, please contact Rowena via email: [email protected]. 
 
Rowena brings coffee, tea, biscuits and cakes. You are welcome to join us after the event for a cuppa and a slice of cake or just to have a chat.
 
Please check our website and social media prior to the event in case of cancellation due to weather conditions or change of date and time. Please wear suitable clothing and shoes. Bring binoculars; pen and paper to list the wildlife you see; something to sit on (optional); and sunscreen / sunblock in the summer. ​No dogs please.

New Year's Day Winter Watch in Mevagissey Harbour, Trenance Boating Lake, Gannel Estuary, Towan Head, Mawgan Porth, Bedruthan Steps, Park Head and Trevose Head, 1 January 2025

We saw 50++ species of birds: Long-tailed Duck, Cornish Choughs,mGreat Northern Diver, Purple Sandpiper, Black Redstart, Cetti's Warbler, Lapwings, Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrow Hawk, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Raven, Rook, Magpie, Gannet, Fulmar, Kittiwake, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Black-headed Gull, Oystercatcher, Cormorant, Shag, Moorhen, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail, Little Egret, Grey Heron, Red Shank, Curlew, Turnstone,, Rock Pipit, Meadow Pipit, Mallard Duck, Tufted Duck, Shellduck, Shovelar, Pochard, Widgeon, Teal, Swan, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Blue Tit. Great Tit, Blackbird, Blackcap, Robin, Nuthatch, Dunnock, House Sparrow, Wood, Pigeon, Collared Dove, Starling, Song Thrush, Wren and others.

​10x wildlife enthusiasts attended. We saw 33x species of birds. The weather even held for us and only started to drizzle when we are about to go home.

We pick up loads of Rubbish which are harmful to wildlife and our environment. We saw over 20++ species of birds. We've seen over 6++ species of sea anemones.

Winter Watch in Mevagissey Harbour, Sunday, 16 February 2025
Lovely walk in the harbour eventhough it's cold and windy. We saw over 15++ species of birds. We had a delicious crepe and coffee at She Sells and fish and chips at the Fishermen's Chippy.

World Wildlife Day Nature Walk on the North Cornwall Coast (Bedruthan Steps, Park Head and Trevose Head), Sunday, 2 March 2025
10x wildlife enthusiasts attended. We saw 20++ species of birds. We had a great time at our World Wildlife Day Nature Walk on three locations on the North Cornwall Coast: Bedruthan Steps, Park Head and Trevose Head plus a side trip to the gorgeous house of Vyv and Mike and to Davidstow Woods and Crowdy Reservoir.

Six nature and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world attended the event. Rowena Castillo-Nicholls organised the event and led by Rob Nicholls.  Rowena is from the Philippines, Valeria Ochoa Galvis is from Mexico, Anna Harz is from Germany, Hilary de Gast is from Canada and Anna Worden, is a local Cornish maid. We saw 32x species of birds: 2x Swallow, 3x Little Grebe, 1x Redshank, 2x Greenshank, 2x Common Sandpiper, 1x Curlew, 25++ Lapwing, 9x Little Egret, 1x Grey Heron, 2x Cormorant, 2x Mute Swan, 1000++ Canada Geese, 8x Pheasant, 4x Buzzard, 12x Carrion Crow, 200++ Jackdaw, 100++ Rook, 3x Magpie, 20++ Herring Gull, 4x Great Black Backed Gull, 30++ Black headed Gull, 1x Pied Wagtail, 3x Meadow Pipit, 1x Stonechat, 14x Woodpigeon, 5x House Sparrow, 1x Dunnock, 1x Blackbird, 1x Wren, 1x Robin, 1x Blue Tit, and 1x Goldcrest. They ate the delicious German biscuits that Anna brought while they were walking. The event ended with an enjoyable tea, coffee, biscuits, and cupcake.

They had a lovely Christmas lunch, Fun Wildlife Quiz, and others at the Harbour Taver Mevagisseyy afterwards. Sam Goldsworthy, Ryan Goldsworthy, Vyv Scawen, and Mike Scawen were the winners of the Fun Wildlife Quiz. Susan Andrewartha won the most festive Christmas Jumper. What a wonderful day to end our 2025 birdwatching season at Mevagissey Harbour.
