I love historical romances. One of my favourites is POLDARK. I was really ecstatic when they started filming in Cornwall in 2014. Whenever I heard they are filming, I asked Rob to take me there so I can watch. They filmed on some of the most spectacular and picturesque spots in Cornwall. If you watch the series, you can see the beauty of Cornwall as it's best.
The series ended last year. I really missed watching the series. If you are a Poldark fan, join me on my "Virtual Poldark Tour in Cornwall" to see the spectacular and picturesque spots where they filmed the series in Cornwall.
I will be posting my photos and videos on my website as well on my Social Media: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Charlestown, a Grade II listed Georgian port has been a favourite filming location for years and it's easy to see why with its long granite quays and unspoilt backdrop and complete with Tall Ships and is perfect for Winston Graham’s 18th Century setting. Charlestown was used for all the harbour scenes which included portraying Truro and Falmouth.

Holywell Bay, one of my favourite spots in Cornwall. Many of the scenes in Poldark were filmed on this stunning beach. This huge beach of golden sand backed by grass tufted dunes is a perfect example of the north coast’s wide open bays. The famous twin offshore islands of Carter’s and Gulls Rocks provide a dramatic backdrop to the show's action. It has been used for many encounters between Ross, Demelza and sworn enemy George Warleggan as well as for the challenging horse races between Dwight and Caroline.

The spectacular Botallack provide the perfect stand in for the Poldark family mines of Wheal Leisure (West Wheal Owles), Grambler (Wheal Crowns) and Wheal Grace as well as backdrop to some coastal clifftop encounters.
The Tin Coast is Cornwall's oldest new destination. It's a cultural landscape of World Heritage site status, it is a place defined by Cornish mining, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. In 2006 Botallack was given World Heritage Site status by UNESCO. The mine is within the Aire Point to Carrick Du Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the South West Coast Path passes along the cliff.

This stunning North Cornwall coast portrays Nampara Valley and the mine in certain shots. The dramatic clifftop scenery and iconic engine houses have served as a backdrop for many horse riding scene all through the Poldark series. The cliffs are home to one of Cornwall's best known old mining engine houses - Wheal Coates.
Minions near to the Hurlers Stones provided the crossroads "Poldark Way". The rugged moorland here which is well-known for its stunning rock formations and stone circles features in a number of horseback scenes between Trenwith and Nampara.
The idyllic little fishing hamlet of Penberth lies in a hidden valley in West Cornwall with a few gorgeous granite cottages, cobbled slipway and working capstan. Penberth Cove has become Sawle village in Poldark, home to Demelza's two brothers, Sam and Drake Carne.
Gunnwalloe, an attractive sandy cove overlooked by the tiny church of St Winwaloe, relived its smugglings past when they film night-time ship wrecking scenes. The location was the site of the wreck of the 17th century Schiedam. Just around the corner is another cove with a shipwreck related past, Dollar Cove, also known as Jangye Ryn. It is said that silver dollars were washed ashore from a Portuguese ship that went down here in the 17th century.
Kynance Cove, with its gorgeous white sand, turquoise waters and serpentine rocks, provides long panning aerial shots, including clifftop riding scenes and the opening sequence of series two. This is also where Ross is marched at the hands of his arresting officers, towards Truro jail, having just been apprehended at St Agnes Head.
Kynance Cove (Cornish: Porth Keynans, meaning ravine cove). The cove became popular in the early Victorian era, with many distinguished visitors including Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and the poet Alfred Tennyson. The BBC has described Kynance Cove as one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the South West.

Park Head and Bedruthan Steps, the majestic and rugged coastline in the north Cornwall was used as backdrop in a few scenes of Ross Podark on horseback galloping across the grassy clifftop and Demelza walking the cliffs alone.
The section of coastline from Carnewas to Stepper Point is part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and subject to special landscape protection. In addition, Bedruthan Steps and Park Head is an 80.8-hectare (200-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest, designated for its geological and biological interest. It is noted for its slates and fossils from the Middle Devonian period, various mosses, and beetles. Bedruthan Steps is also a Geological Conservation Review site because it is a ″source of rare fish specimens″, which were first reported in 1848 by W Pengelly.

Porthgwarra is where one of the most memorable scenes from the first series of Poldark was shot. This is the scene in which Ross goes skinny-dipping in the crystal clear waters off the beach, whilst Demelza secretly looks on from the cliffs above.
Porthgwarra (Cornish: Porth Gorwedhow, meaning very wooded cove) is a small coastal village in West Cornwall. At the foot of the cove's slipway is a tunnel dug by tin miners to give farmers horse-and-cart access to the beach to collect seaweed to use as a fertiliser. A second tunnel, leading seawards, is the fishermen's access to the tidal 'hulleys' built in the rocks to store shellfish. The 'hulleys', which ceased being used about 20 years ago, had wooden floors and topcovers with trapdoors and were used to store shellfish prior to taking the catch to market once or twice a week. The rope laid down the beach is used to steady boats while landing.

Poldark is a British historical drama television series based on the novels of the same title by Winston Graham and starring Aidan Turner in the lead role. The series was written and adapted by Debbie Horsfield for the BBC, and directed by several directors throughout its run.
